Obama has been a huge disappointment. Taking away more of our freedoms was not the “Change” we were told we could believe in. I was never a big fan, but I never dreamed he would be so awful a president. He has lost support from all sides, and will almost certainly take his party down with him in 2012. How sad, we really could have accomplished so much if he had only been what he claimed to be, or what people chose to believe he was. Which ever, he shows the same stunning lack of concern for the American people and our environment as W did. The best thing he could do is to not run again. I hope someone with a spine runs against him in the Demo primaries and knocks him all the way back to Chicago.
How dare he limit freedom of our press? It is our constitutional right to have freedom of speech. It’s time people stopped cutting Obama so much slack and set him straight. The anti-whaling petitions made him do an about face when he, after promising to expand protection of whales if elected, instead tried to expand whaling! He lies and no one dares call him on it. Why?

It’s a good lesson in exteme politics. The people in charge if not checked will try usurp power. Even if they are well intentioned the rules that take the power from the people and place it in a central government create a timebomb for the future. Now with centralized power to alienate rights like free speech, freedom of assembly, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…can be taken easily. Imagine our great super power nation taken over by an elected despot like Hitler with the ability to remove rights at will….This is why people say, “a government that can give you everything can also take everything away” – it’s dangerous. This is the fear of our forefathers who developed the constitution and the reason conservatives like small government.

i am a journalist (a real one, not a ‘citizen journalist’) and i have acted in an official capacity as spokesperson for the canadian coast guard in times of emergency.

everyone knows the extent of the damage done by this spill.

the uscg is not “hijacking free speech”, it is properly controlling the situation so that the work that is required to be done will be done with a minimum of interference from people who do not belong there. you have NO idea of how critical some of these situations can be; the air may be nearly as dangerous as the water.

there have been times when i have had to make similar decisions, based on the emergency at hand. the safety of everybody at the site is paramount, while proper reporting – factual, informed, current – is close behind.

i imagine that the uscg will select reporters and cameramen to report for the journalistic pool; allowing everybody and his uncle to tramp through this toxic, deeply contaminated area is unwise, stupid, and dangerous.

I very much appreciate that Michael. It is a shame that there is such a media blackout, but hopefully if we all work together we can get an accurate picture of what is going on down there in the Gulf of Mexico.

it ain’t pretty. Now they are banning any traffic for a 60mi. radius. I live on the Gulf. I can tell ya what Phillipe coutou will see. Lots of oil and dieing fish, oiled birds dieing on our islands and no one doing anything about them! turtles dieing….crab larvae filled with oil and they are a big part of the food chain. Our eco system is doomed for years to come and they are trying to tell us as soon as they stop the leaks all will be better. NOT!! it will take generations to clean this mess. Dispersants just make the oil into smaller globs and keeps it under water where they think we cannot see it. It is still there!! that is why we get 1000s of tarballs all along the coast everyday! Our marshes are now filling with oil, not just in LA. but in MS. and AL. too! Why do they not do something??? they sit and make excuses untill the mayors of small cities get fed up with all of it and do for themselves and let the truth be known. That is why they bann the news!!

Be honest with yourself. If it was Bush’s administration that did this, he would have been crucified. But Obama’s administration can do no Evil? Wake up! This administration covers up more than any administration in history. I find it very interesting (and expeceted) that Mr. Cooper did not mention Obama once in his rage…not once! Again, if it was Bush, he would have worn his name out. I don’t believe Obama is to blame for the spill, but this government has done EVERYTHING wrong regarding the clean up.

This isn’t about Obama its not even about a freedom of speech issue.. back up.. get permission stop trying to be a part of the problem and be a part of the solution. Let workers take their breaks.. realize we can not save all the marine animals stuck in nets, or covered in oil. Stop using oil.. stop throwing stones.. we live in a glass house.
