Michele Obama said people should take their kids on vaction for a swim in the Gulf, during her first visit to the region.

She said people should plan vacations to beach resorts and spend alot of money, to help the Gulf Victims.

Then she ate a scoop of ice cream, stayed three hours and left for her vacation in Maine.

In light of this article, please do not take your children on vaction, for a swim in the Gulf.

Far from convincing evidence, although this is just confirming what we already knew - the situation is bad. However, analysing how bad it is won't make anything better.

Interesting, but it's not science. Second hand samples supposedly from 20 miles offshore? Sea otters in Grand Isle? (Not during the 55 years I've been in LA and on the Gulf Coast.) We appreciate the authors' enthusiasm, but we urge this web site to be more rigorous in vetting the information you publish. If someone can't tell a nutria from a sea otter I'm not likely to trust their water sampling results.

We do not know what human health effects might occur after long-term exposure to food and water contaminated with benzene. In animals, exposure to food or water contaminated with benzene can damage the blood and the immune system and can cause cancer.

Cancer is not something that will show up after a week of exposure to toxic chemicals - it can and does take years to form and cause its insidious damage. Telling the Gulf Locals to stay inside is not the answer.... the poison is everywhere, carried, as it were on the winds.......
